You want to plant a community garden, set up yoga classes, or start a program for distributing fruits and vegetables in the school that your child attends? Resources from the Healthy Schools BC strategy, now available in French, could help you carry out your project.
The Healthy Schools BC website describes opportunities to fund your project, as well as contacts in the Healthy Schools Network! For more information, refer to the Healthy Schools BC website,
www.healthyschoolsbc.ca.
DASH BC and RésoSanté Colombie-Britannique, along with other partners, worked together to produce the French version of the Healthy Schools BC resource information. Already, some CSF schools have participated in the strategy by developing health-related projects that have been carried out in collaboration with the B.C. Francophone Youth Council, school staff, students, and members of the community. You can read a summary of their successful initiatives on the website page
Healthy Schools Stories.
What’s a Healthy School?
The healthy school concept is based on the principles that healthy children learn better and that better educated people are healthier. Schools that promote health collaborate with partners in the health and education sectors, as well as with the general community (parents, APÉ, or preschool centre, for example), to help children adopt healthy habits that will last a lifetime. Regardless of the project initiated by the school community, the important thing is to strengthen the capacity of the school to be able to provide a healthy environment in which to learn, work, and have fun.
