L'école des Voyageurs Celebrates 20th Anniversary
L'Association des parents francophones de Langley (APFL), along with the principal and staff of l'école des Voyageurs, welcomed families to the school the afternoon of September 22 to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
L'école des Voyageurs was founded in 1997 when the Conseil scolaire francophone (CSF) assumed responsibility for the Francophone program that was offered at Bradshaw Elementary in the Langley School District.
The new school, known at first as l’école francophone de Langley, started as a "Programme cadre" (Francophone program) inside an Anglophone school. The CSF subsequently purchased Topham Elementary from the Langley School District and the Francophone students were relocated from Bradshaw Elementary to this new school in September 2000. The school was then renamed l'école des Voyageurs to honour the role of the voyageurs in the history of our community.
The celebration started with speeches, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new multi-purpose sport court that was installed over the summer thanks to the fundraising efforts of the APFL.
It then continued with food, drinks, and cake, as well as a display of exotic animals presented by the Urban Safari Rescue Society, much to the children’s enjoyment. The students proudly wore t-shirts made to mark the occasion!
The school also celebrated the fact that a current Grade 1 student is the second generation in his family to attend the Francophone school program in Langley – his father was a student in the Francophone program, at its original location at Bradshaw Elementary!
