LA VOIX DES PARENTS

A New Resource for Parents!

The Fédération des parents introduces a series of four fact sheets, written in French and English, which offer strategies and resources to help you to live in French at home.

In these fact sheets you’ll find information about the development of Francophone identity in young children, as well as practical advice on how to help your child learn and speak French at home.

Visit our website to download the free fact sheets, and then print them out so that you can consult them regularly!

Mixed couples: when only one parent speaks French

One of the four fact sheets is aimed at families in which only one parent speaks French. It emphasizes the important role of each parent in a mixed (exogamous) couple in ensuring the transmission of French to the next generation.

For example, when a young child feels encouraged to talk, sing, and play in French by a mother or father who doesn’t speak French, this confirms to the child that this aspect of their life is important. And when the family participates in Francophone community activities, and the parents enroll the child in a preschool centre or summer camp in French, he learns that Francophone culture and language exist outside of the home.

Videos coming soon!

The messages conveyed in this series of fact sheets have inspired the creation of videos that will soon be broadcast by the media.

Follow the Fédération des parents on Facebook or visit our website (www.fpfcb.bc.ca) to find out when you can watch these videos. We encourage you to share them in your network!
