The event, which will take place at l’école secondaire Jules-Verne in Vancouver, promises again this year to be an excellent opportunity for representatives of parents’ associations to network! And thanks to the activities and presentations designed to meet their needs, they will leave better equipped to work within their school community. So it’s a datet not to be missed!

 

The opening night is an opportunity for parents to exchange information and network with the school and community partners in a relaxed, celebratory atmosphere. During the evening, a BC parents’ association will be given the Parents’ Association of the Year Award. Also, the prestigious Award of Excellence in Early Childhood Education will be given, as it is every year, to an early childhood educator working in a Francophone preschool.

 

Saturday will begin with the talk “Mobilisation et engagement des parents : une étude de cas.” It will focus on the power of collaboration and on what can be achieved by encouraging the involvement of parents to meet a challenge that affects a school community. Our guest speaker is Christine McLeod, a consultant and leadership trainer, and also Chair of the APÉ of l’école Les Aiglons in Squamish. She will be accompanied by Catherine Drapeau, principal of the school. They will share with us the lessons learned in their school community.

 

An interactive workshop entitled “Leadership et stratégies pour rehausser l'engagement des parents” will follow. In this workshop we will explore courses of action that can help to meet various challenges faced by our parents’ associations, such as: improving communication with parents; developing a sense of belonging within the community; building on the strengths and skills of individuals to form high performance volunteer teams; enhancing relationships and collaboration with the school team; and ensuring succession within the parents’ association.
