LEGAL CASE
Community Presentations
The Fédération des parents and the Conseil scolaire francophone (CSF) are currently conducting a tour of some of the communities that are affected, directly or indirectly, by the lawsuit regarding Francophone schools.
The objective of this series of meetings is to provide parents, community partners, and school staff with general information about the judgment and the appeals filed in this case, and most importantly, to present the implications for the Francophone schools in each of the regions visited.
The tour began last fall. Following the judgment rendered at the end of September 2016, the Fédération des parents and the CSF had relevant information to communicate to the communities concerned, and this is what motivated the organization of these meetings.
About ten presentations have already taken place from Victoria to Chilliwack, and from Sechelt to Vancouver. At each meeting, the presentation team included the Executive Director of the Fédération des parents, Marie-Andrée Asselin, the Secretary-Treasurer of the CSF, Sylvain Allison, as well as a member of the legal team. At most of the meetings, the CSF school trustee representing the region and the school principal were also present.
Up to now, more than 150 people have participated in the tour. By addressing parents and interested community members, the presentations have provided clarification on very real issues affecting the school in their community. The legal case is complex, and each meeting allowed us to put into context the judgment and appeal issues that might affect a region or particular school.
The series of presentations will continue until June 9, 2017. Parents' associations (APÉs) that would like a meeting at their school regarding the lawsuit should contact the Fédération des parents as soon as possible to book a date.
