PORTRAIT OF A PARENT

Denis, New Representative for Southern Vancouver Island

I grew up in Montreal and the Eastern Townships in Quebec. Having an English-speaking mother and a French-speaking father, bilingualism has always seemed natural to me.

I grew up in Montreal and the Eastern Townships in Quebec. Having an English-speaking mother and a French-speaking father, bilingualism has always seemed natural to me.

I’ve lived in British Columbia for 18 years now, and I’ve had the experience of living in Vancouver (large urban area), Revelstoke (village in the mountains), and now Victoria (island environment).

My wife Caroline and I are the proud parents of Audrey and Louis. When we were in Revelstoke, our whole family participated in the founding of l'école des Glaciers as well as the establishment of its APÉ (parents' association). What a beautiful adventure!

In April last year, we played tourists in Victoria, and with Victoria it was a case of love at first sight for us. We moved there in October. The children are now students in Grades 3 and 5 at l'école Victor-Brodeur.

I always liked school and education. I did my elementary and secondary school in the public system. After college, at university, I obtained a B.Sc. in geography and a teaching certificate for secondary school and college. In my thirties, I returned to technical school, and now I’m working on the maintenance and restoration of historic buildings for Parks Canada. School has always opened its doors for me.

Sitting on the Board of Directors of the Fédération des parents, I count on making a contribution so that we can promote the importance of the Francophone education system in our province, for our children and their future.
