2014 School Elections

Every Vote Counts!

The school elections for the Conseil scolaire francophone de la C.-B. (CSF) will be held in November. The seven school board trustees for the CSF will be chosen in these elections.

For parents, the school elections are an opportunity to play an active role in the future of Francophone education in BC. It’s the CSF members who will elect (or re-elect) the school trustees to represent them at the CSF over the next three years. And the decisions taken by these school trustees have a direct impact on the education of our children!

Who has the right to vote?

To have the right to vote in the CSF school elections, you must:

1.  Be a Canadian citizen;

2.  Be 18 years or older at the time of the election;

3.  Be a resident in the area where you vote;

4.  Be a resident of British Columbia for at least six months, i.e., since May 15, 2014;

5.  Be enrolled as a CSF member. The process is not automatic — you need to register!

Who can be a CSF member?

Any parent of a student enrolled in a CSF school, no matter what their first language is. In fact, both parents can become members! However, each of them must complete the form.

Any adult who has French as a first language and resides in British Columbia.

Any adult who received their primary-level education in French in Canada (excluding immersion) and resides in British Columbia.

How do I become a CSF member?

To register and be recognized as a CSF member, simply fill out the form available on the CSF website or click here and send it to the CSF.

How do I check to see if I am registered as a CSF member?

If you receive emails from the csfcb@membres.csf.bc.ca address (the last one was sent on January 21, 2014), you are already a member in good standing.

If this isn’t the case, please contact Ms. Hélène Rivest, administrative assistant, by phone at 604-214-2636 or e-mail at hrivest@csf.bc.ca. You will need to provide Ms. Rivest with your first name, last name, and e-mail address.

It’s important that a large number of us take part in this essential democratic process for the education of our children. Please help spread the word!
