SCHOOL BOARD ELECTIONS
Who can vote in the 2018 CSF elections?

.
The next school board elections for the Conseil scolaire francophone de la C.-B. (CSF) will take place on October 20, 2018. To vote in this election of the trustees for the next CSF Board of Trustees, you must be a CSF member as of June 22, 2018.
If you think that the school board elections apply only to parents of children attending CSF schools, think again! Parents of preschool-aged children, school staff, young people who are 18 or older at the time of the elections, members of the community (whether or not they have children): anyone that meets certain eligibility criteria* and who is a CSF member has the right to vote.
Therefore, we invite you to talk to others about this, because your network might include people who meet the criteria* to become CSF members. (*You can find the eligibility criteria to become a CSF member and to vote in the CSF school board elections at csf.vote)
Not sure if you’re a member?
If you’ve already received an email this year from the CSF about the elections, you’re a member in good standing and you’ll receive your ballot by email in due course.
If you think you’re a CSF member but haven’t yet received an email about the 2018 CSF school board elections, you can check whether you’re on the members list by contacting Ms. Hélène Rivest, administrative assistant at the CSF, by phone at 604-214-2636 or toll free at 1-888-715-2200, or by email at hrivest@csf.bc.ca.
To become a CSF member
If you meet the eligibility criteria but aren’t a CSF member yet, it's easy and free to become one: simply fill out the membership form and return it by email to the CSF at hrivest@csf.bc.ca. You can find this form, as well as all relevant information (including the eligibility criteria), at csf.vote.
- Can both parents become CSF members? Yes: all parents -- whether they’re Francophone or not -- whose child attends a Francophone school has the right to vote in the CSF school board elections.
- Will your child be 18 years old before October 20, 2018? He or she can also become a member and vote! Why not encourage them to do this as a community service?
A community initiative encourages the participation in CSF school board elections
Various Francophone organizations, including the Fédération des parents, decided to combine their efforts with those of the CSF to encourage greater community participation during the CSF school board elections on October 20.
The initiative brings together the Fédération des francophones de la Colombie-Britannique, the Fédération des parents francophones de C.-B., the Conseil jeunesse francophone de la C.-B., Réseau-Femmes Colombie-Britannique, as well as the Syndicat des enseignantes et enseignants de la C.-B.
All the participating organizations believe that the school board elections present a crucial opportunity for the members in their respective networks to make their voices heard and to decide on the CSF’s direction during the coming years. The decisions made by the elected trustees will indeed have a direct impact on Francophone education in BC for present and future generations.
Vote in CSF school board elections: it’s our responsibility, because our future is in our schools!
