PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION OF THE YEAR
APÉ Jules-Verne
A parents’ association that has distinguished itself by its achievements received the prize awarded annually by the Commission nationale de parents francophones (CNPF).
The 2016/2017 award was presented to l’Association des parents (APÉ) de l’école secondaire Jules-Verne in Vancouver.
Since the opening of the only secondary school in the Conseil scolaire francophone de la C.-B., in 2008, this parents’ association has taken a unifying approach. It has succeeded by encouraging the engagement and participation of parents both at meetings and at the events that it organises.
The APÉ put together several committees, including: pizza, sushi, and hot meals committees, as well as security and outdoor committees, a social club, a ski club, and a Christmas market. It also established a mentoring program for students responsible for the yearbook, a graduation committee, family outings to the skating rink and bowling alley, and an annual camping weekend.
This association, which continues to support the school’s sports teams and special projects groups, also rewards Grade 12 students with graduating scholarships.
Finally, like other parents’ associations facing the same challenge, the APÉ was able to show leadership in dealing with the impacts caused by space limitation problems.

Our congratulations to the parents of the APÉ Jules-Verne!
