BC’s Early Learning Framework is Being Updated

A new edition of the British Columbia Early Learning Framework will be published this fall.

The document, produced by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with several partners, including the Fédération des parents francophones, will offer guidelines for early childhood education professionals to provide children with a rich environment of varied and inclusive experiences.

The purpose of the Early Learning Framework is to use a shared vision and language throughout the province, as well as to reflect on the crucial importance of young children’s overall development, respecting diversity.

The first edition of the British Columbia Early Learning Framework in 2008 was dedicated to young children aged 0 to 5 years. The new edition will include children aged 0 to 8 years.

As a result, for the first time, the Early Learning Framework connects with the new BC curriculum to bring similar ideas and common guidelines to educators in early childhood education, as well as to those teaching in kindergarten to grade 3.

Over the past ten years, British Columbia has experienced many social, political, economic, and cultural changes. The new realities that have followed bring into question various concepts and the language used in education..

The new edition of the Early Learning Framework takes into account these new realities in order to revitalize our approach to teaching children and obtain the cooperation of families and communities in a responsible and respectful manner.

As of now, you can see a draft of the new Early Learning Framework by going to the BC Government website. The French version will be available in the fall of 2019, when the official version of the document is published.

On May 31, the Conseil scolaire francophone de la C.-B. will offer training on the new learning framework. We invite educators in Francophone child care centres to participate in this. For all the details on this training, contact the Fédération des parents at 1-800-905-5056, or info@fpfcb.bc.ca.
