On the 22nd and 23rd of November this year, representatives of BC parents’ associations will participate in the Fédération des parents 2013 conference and AGM. The event will take place at l’École secondaire Jules-Verne in Vancouver. The conference and AGM will be held in French.

This year we have the pleasure of welcoming Mr. Thierry Karsenti as a speaker. He will discuss the use of information and communication technologies at school, as part of presentations especially focused on the parents’ perspective.

Mr. Thierry Karsenti is a professor in the integration of information and communication technologies for the training of teachers at Université de Montréal. In addition, since 2005 he has directed the Centre de recherche interuniversitaire sur la formation et la profession enseignante (CRIFPE). 

At the Friday night opening, he suggests starting with “10 stratégies pour permettre aux parents de favoriser la réussite scolaire de leur enfant avec les technologies, le Web 2.0 et les réseaux sociaux” (10 Strategies to Enable Parents to Promote the Academic Success of Their Children with Technology, Web 2.0 and Social Networks). Then, on Saturday morning, he will present his talk on “Tablettes tactiles et ordinateurs portables à l’école : usages, avantages et défis” (Touch Tablet Computers and Laptops at School: Uses, Benefits and Challenges). These talks will be given in French.

The rest of the day on Saturday will be dedicated to our annual general meeting, group workshops, and a presentation about the legal case against the provincial government undertaken by the CSF, the Fédération des parents, and co-plaintiff parents.

The Fédération des parents 2013 conference will be an excellent opportunity for representatives of parents’ associations to network! And through workshops designed to meet their needs, they will leave better equipped to work within their school community. So it’s a rendezvous not to be missed!
