WORKSHOPS

Varied and Relevant Workshops

Workshops on various topics were offered to participants during the conference; the objective was to respond as fully as possible to the diverse needs of the member associations of the Fédération des parents.

These workshops resulted in productive exchanges and valuable learning. In addition, they were an excellent opportunity for delegates from the associations to ask questions on current topics of interest for parents.

A workshop related to secondary schooling in BC was presented by the CSF. The Superintendent of the CSF, Bertrand Dupain, presented statistics related to secondary schooling in the province's Francophone schools. He also reviewed the strategies implemented during the past two years that were intended to enhance secondary education in CSF schools. The parents’ interest in this subject was quite obvious during the question period that followed the presentation.

Another workshop was devoted specifically to parent managers of preschool centres. Participants were able to exchange information on current best practices in daycares and kindergartens in British Columbia, and also to ask questions that they had always wanted to ask, but never dared to. Useful information was shared with them to help them better manage their preschool centres.

Moreover, parents who were newly elected to school parents’ associations (APÉs) were able to take part in a workshop aimed at reviewing the basics of the proper functioning of an APÉ and its board. This workshop was intended to equip parents to help them feel confident about carrying out their duties as elected officials of an APÉ, and to ensure that the actions of these parents’ associations would have even more of a positive impact in their communities.

In short, a variety of workshops tailor-made for the conference participants!
