AWARD OF EXCELLENCE – EARLY CHILDHOOD

Jocelyne Ky, Educator in Vancouver

Every year for the past seven years, the Fédération des parents has presented the Award of Excellence in Early Childhood Education in British Columbia during the opening evening of its annual conference.

This prestigious award is intended to highlight the contributions of an educator whose work is particularly appreciated in their community. Jocelyne Ky, from the Garderie Tartine et chocolat in Vancouver, won the honour for 2016-2017.

Parents from this child care centre point out that Jocelyne has been able to develop programming that incorporates opportunities for multidisciplinary learning that promote overall development in children; programming that’s often enriched with art, drama, and music.

This educator also loves to take the kids on a trip around the world by telling them about various ways of life in different countries -- food, clothes, song, and dance are highlighted. In doing so, she presents the children with a model of positive social values that emphasizes respect for self and others, equality of rights and opportunities for each group member, and the recognition of differences.

According to parents, Jocelyne also puts in considerable time with families, whether it’s encouraging a positive start for the school year or guiding parents to the many community resources available in French. She also stays in contact with parents on a regular basis, sending them descriptions of activities, photos, or informative newsletters.

Finally, wanting to contribute to the development of Francophone human resources in early childhood in BC, she doesn’t hesitate to welcome trainees and volunteers to her centre during their training period.

In the photo, Jocelyne is surrounded by parents of Tartine et chocolat, and also accompanied by Michelle Marsan, Coordinator of the preschool network, and Marie-Pierre Lavoie, President of the Fédération des parents.

Congratulations, Jocelyne!
