OPENING EVENING

Networking and Celebration

The opening evening of the conference allowed delegates of member associations to network among themselves and with several community partners in a relaxed atmosphere.

As they welcomed parent delegates representing 24 communities, the Fédération des parents team paired each delegate with another participant. Each two partner-team consisted of one person who had never attended the conference and someone who had taken part at least once in the past.

The paired delegates were invited to find, together, the answers to a series of questions, riddles, and puzzles displayed on the walls. Pairing participants in this manner made it easier for them to meet others, which was particularly appreciated by delegates who were attending the conference for the first time. What’s more, the teams that completed the icebreaker activity had a chance to win a prize!

The President of the Fédération des parents, Marie-Pierre Lavoie, then delivered her words of welcome, followed by two annual awards: the Parents’ Association of the Year Award, and the Award of Excellence in Early Childhood Education (see our articles on these topics).

In addition, certificates of recognition were displayed during the entire conference to highlight the commitment and achievements of parents who were named Volunteers of the Year by the parents’ association in their community.

In short, the opening evening set the tone for a weekend full of fruitful discussions and exchanges of information!
