ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

A Year Marked by Important Events

At the 37th Annual General Meeting, President Marie-Pierre Lavoie outlined several topics and important events that had marked the past year.

First, there was the judgment related to the lawsuit that brought together the CSF, the Fédération des parents, and parents against the Government of British Columbia, which was released on September 26, seven months after the end of the trial. Ms. Lavoie stated that: "This judgment is historic in several ways for British Columbia and Canada. It’s particularly notable with regard to the system of financing education in French in our province, a system that will have to be, according to the judgment, modified in order to be tailor-made to meet the needs of Francophones."

Certainly, the lawsuit wasn't our only priority last year. We've invested a lot of energy in representing the interests of parents at the provincial and national levels, we've ensured the implementation of our strategic plan, and we've set up new initiatives and strategic alliances that are already starting to bear fruit. The President concluded her report by thanking parents for their commitment and hard work towards improving the quality of services offered to children in British Columbia.

Also at the annual general meeting, delegates of the member associations of the Fédération des parents elected four of the seven representatives who will sit on the board of directors. Marie-Pierre Lavoie and Suzana Straus were re-elected to the positions of President and Member for the Metro Vancouver Region respectively. In addition, two new board members were elected to the board of directors. They are Christine Leroux for the Okanagan-Columbia Region, and Geneviève Deschamps for the South Vancouver Island Region.

Following the election, the composition of the 2016-2017 Board of Directors is :

  • Marie-Pierre Lavoie, President;
  • Roch Massicotte, Vice President and Member for North Vancouver Island;
  • Marie-Christine Claveau, Treasurer and Member for the Northern Region of the Province;
  • Geneviève Deschamps, Secretary and Member for South Vancouver Island;
  • Suzana Straus, Member for the Metro Vancouver Region;
  • Anny Goodman, Member for the Fraser Valley Region;
  • Christine Leroux, Member for the Okanagan-Columbia Region.
