SCHOOL ELECTIONS 2014
Your Vote Counts!
The voting period for the 2014 school elections for the Conseil scolaire francophone (CSF) has now begun. Every parent and CSF member should have already received their ballot by e-mail, since voting will be done electronically.
The parents and CSF members may vote as soon as they receive the ballot, but must do so before 8 p.m., November 15. The results of the elections will be announced after 8 p.m. the same day.
Biographical notes and photos of several of the candidates for the position of school trustee in each of the four regions where elections will be held are available on the CSF's website.
Some parents’ associations have organized meetings with the candidates of their electoral region. We encourage you to participate in these meetings in order to get acquainted with the candidates and to find out about their reasons for running, and also to have the opportunity to ask questions about their positions on issues that concern you as parents.
Every vote counts, and this is even more true with regard to the CSF school elections. Indeed, in the last CSF elections, held in 2011:
- Four of the candidates won by less than 20 votes;
- In four regions, less than 100 people voted;
- A total of 646 people exercised their right to vote.
It’s important that a large number of us take part in this essential democratic process for the education of our children. Please help spread the word!
No Elections in Three Regions
There will be no school elections in the South Coast and South East regions of the province, where Robert Joncas and Roger Hébert were, respectively, elected by acclamation.
In the Vancouver Island North region, where no nominations have been received, it will be up to the Minister of Education of British Columbia to appoint a school trustee. Those interested in this position should immediately inform the CSF, by contacting Ms. Hélène Rivest (see below). The Chair of the new CSF Board, or the Secretary-Treasurer of the CSF, will have until December 15, 2014 to submit the names of those interested in the position, as well as the name of the CSF's preferred applicant, to the Minister of Education. Please note that candidates do not have to live in the Vancouver Island North region. Moreover, the Minister of Education may consider applicants other than those submitted by the CSF.
You haven’t received a ballot?
Anyone who has not received their ballot by e-mail must immediately notify Ms. Hélène Rivest, Administrative Assistant to the CSF Board, at 604-214-2636 or e-mail hrivest@csf.bc.ca.
For more information on the school elections, please consult the CSF's website or the FPFCB's website.
