PARENTS’ CONFERENCE

An Event Bringing the Community Together

Parents attending the 2018 annual conference of the Fédération des parents will have a unique opportunity: they will have the chance to take part in the Summit on the Transmission of French Language in British Columbia.

The annual conference and annual general meeting of the Fédération des parents francophones de Colombie-Britannique will be held on Friday evening, November 2, and Sunday morning, November 4.

In addition, the representatives of parents’ associations from across the province, who will get together in Richmond for this annual gathering, will also have the opportunity to participate in a unique event on Saturday, November 3: the very first summit on the transmission of French language in British Columbia.

A Major Event Bringing Together BC Francophone Community Partners

The theme for Saturday will be: “En français. Aujourd’hui. Demain.” (In French. Today. Tomorrow.) The summit will include presentations, panels, discussions, and reflections on the transmission of French language in British Columbia -- while keeping children and young people at the heart of it all.

In addition to the parents attending the conference, the summit will bring together committed people from different regions in BC, including: youth, seniors, representatives of the Francophone association network, and participants in education from early childhood to the post-secondary level.

In short, it will bring together all those who are concerned with the development and sustainability of the BC Francophone community.

The Summit on the Transmission of French Language in British Columbia is jointly organized by several partners. In addition to the Fédération des parents, these partners include :

  • la Fédération des francophones de la Colombie-Britannique;
  • le Conseil jeunesse francophone de la Colombie-Britannique;
  • Réseau-Femmes Colombie-Britannique;
  • l’Assemblée des retraité(e)s et des aîné(e)s francophone de la Colombie-Britannique;
  • le Conseil scolaire francophone de la Colombie-Britannique;
  • la Société de développement économique de la Colombie-Britannique;
  • le Conseil culturel et artistique francophone de la Colombie-Britannique; and
  • le Bureau des affaires francophones et francophiles de l’Université Simon Fraser.

The Parents’ Conference Program

The complete program of the parents’ conference can be found at: www.fpfcb.bc.ca/congres-2018

As usual, the opening night on November 2 will focus on networking, and on interactions between parents and school and community partners. In addition, two prestigious awards, the Parents’ Association of the Year Award and the Award of Excellence in Early Childhood Education, will be presented during the evening.

The school board trustees of the Conseil scolaire francophone (CSF), who will be elected on October 20, will all be present that evening. During the evening, in the presence of conference participants, the swearing-in ceremony will take place for these seven people, who will form the Board of Trustees of the CSF for the next four years.

Finally, the 2018 annual general meeting of the Fédération des parents will be held on the morning of Sunday, November 4; the rest of the morning will then be devoted to meetings where delegates of the parents’ associations will have the opportunity to discuss topics that directly affect them.

The 2018 conference and AGM of the Fédération des parents, and the Summit on the Transmission of French Language in British Columbia, will be held at the Executive Airport Plaza in Richmond.

Each parents’ association, at both the school and preschool levels, can delegate two representatives to these events. Registration is now underway. The online form is located at : www.fpfcb.bc.ca/congres-2018.
