A Friendship Bench in Terrace

There is something new in

the playground at l’école

Jack-Cook in Terrace!

A Friendship Bench (“banc de l'amitié”) was installed in the playground, just in time for the start of the 2018/2019 school year.

It was the parents’ association (APÉ) that accomplished the Friendship Bench project, an idea that was introduced by the school principal.

The bench was built by Brett MacArthur, a parent, and other parent volunteers contributed in one way or another as well.

The project was sponsored by a local small business, and three other businesses in the area provided the equipment and materials needed.

The bench is a symbol of inclusiveness. If a student has no one to play with, they can sit on the bench, and other children are encouraged to join them, or ask them to play.

The bench is already well used by students for its intended purpose, and it has become an additional play structure as well!
