WORKSHOP FOR PARENTS
How to Talk So Kids Will Listen and Listen So Kids Will Talk
This workshop is intended for parents with preschool or elementary school children who wish to improve their skills in communicating with them. It’s designed to empower mothers, fathers, or anyone responsible for children, by offering them accessible, concrete, practical, and effective techniques that can help them calmly face numerous everyday life situations.
Two workshops, one offered at l’école Au-cœur-de-l’île in Comox (in an intensive format over two days) and the other at l’école André-Piolat in North Vancouver (in a series of six weekly sessions), helped at least 26 parents think about and explore several strategies in order to harmonize the relationships with their children or the relationships with those people that they encounter every day.
Participants used their new skills through case scenarios, role-playing, and group discussions. These were some very worthwhile sessions!
When the program facilitator explained to a young student at André-Piolat what she had come to do in his school, he added with a serious look: “Yeah, my mum would need this. Who should she talk to?” This is a reply that really reflects the interest in this program!
It should be noted that this program was offered in two communities, as part of an initiative made possible through the financial support of Canadian Heritage.
