EARLY CHILDHOOD
Learn about the Centre d'appui à la famille et à l'enfance
Do you know about CAFE? CAFE is an acronym for the Centre d’appui à la famille et à l’enfance (francophone equivalent of Early Years Centre), an initiative that allows families with children under five years old, and with at least one Francophone parent, to take advantage of a range of services, programs, and activities.
Already, since April, CAFE programming designed to meet the needs of families in Vancouver is available at two locations, one at the Franc départ centre at l’école Anne-Hébert, and one at la Maison de la Francophonie. In addition, during the coming months, families elsewhere in British Columbia will also have access online (including through our website) to new resources intended to equip them for their role as their child’s first educators.
Among the activities currently available in Vancouver, parents who would like to familiarize themselves with the important stages of their children’s development, to better accompany them on their path through school, can participate in the “Regarde, je suis capable!” program offered at the main CAFE site, the Franc départ centre at l'école Anne-Hébert.
Young children’s parents can also take part in "Les petits matins" informal sessions, which are held every week at la Maison de la Francophonie de Vancouver (1555 West 7th Avenue). These drop-in sessions aim to provide parents with information on subjects that affect them, as well as to give them the opportunity to have fun with their young children in French, while at the same time meeting other Francophone parents.
Other programs and resources will be announced soon -- so, for more information about what is going on at the CAFE, regularly visit the Fédération des parents website, www.fpfcb.bc.ca. Or follow us on Facebook, and you won't miss any of the new activities offered!
Managed by the Fédération des parents francophones and implemented in collaboration with various partners, the Centre d’appui à la famille et à l’enfance is part of the new network of Early Years Centres in British Columbia, established with funding from the BC Ministry of Children and Family Development.
