Workshops for the parents
Technology in the Classroom : A Subject of Great Interest to Parents
Our guest speaker, Mr. Thierry Karsenti, captivated conference participants with an assessment of research results on the use, benefits, and challenges inherent to tablet PCs and laptops in a school context. ICTs (information and communications technologies) are increasingly present, both in the classroom and at home. By providing a scientific perspective on this very current issue, the presentation was intended to answer parents’ questions about how to get their children to use ICTs more thoughtfully and in a way that leads to more effective learning.
Please note that Mr. Karsenti’s presentation, followed by a question period, was filmed and will soon be available in video format on the Fédération des parents website (in French only).
An Interactive Workshop Focusing on Sharing Ideas and Good Practices
During the workshop entitled “La résolution de problèmes vécus par les associations de parents” (“The Resolution of Problems Experienced by Parents’ Associations”), led by Marc Gignac, delegates from more than 20 APÉs discussed the various challenges they face, both small and large. The parents’ associations had been invited to submit topics for discussion in advance, so that the relevant information regarding their objectives could then be shared.
Using an interactive format, the delegates’ expertise was put to good use to identify potential solutions. This allowed participants to share their success stories on topics such as financing activities, management of meetings, and recruitment of new volunteers, to name just a few.
A Meeting for Parents Involved with Preschool Services
Again this year, the conference included a workshop for parents who manage a preschool service. Using the theme “Ressourcement et réseautage pour les parents du secteur préscolaire” (“Finding Resources and Networking for Preschool Parents”), this meeting allowed a dozen parents to learn about relevant topics and to exchange views about their experiences.
Questions relating to the recruitment of work force, staff, board members, as well as working conditions and regulations were among the topics discussed.
