« PARENTS' ASSOCIATION OF THE YEAR »

Association des parents de l’école Les Aiglons

At our conference, a parents’ association that has distinguished itself by its achievements received the prize awarded annually by the Commission nationale des parents francophones.

The 2014/2015 award was presented to l’Association des parents de l’école Les Aiglons, in Squamish.

This group of parents showed that success in mobilizing the school community can overcome obstacles and at the same time tighten bonds within the community.

While uncertainty about the future of their school divided the parents, the APÉ undertook to enhance, through various strategies, communication with the parents as well as collaboration with the school’s staff.

To do this, the APÉ implemented effective ways to disseminate and share information, in addition to conducting targeted consultations to get a true assessment of the parents’ points of view, in order to guide their choices and decisions.

These efforts helped the association not only to rally the community around a solution, but also to seek the involvement of a significant proportion of parents, who committed themselves with enthusiasm to the various projects and initiatives launched by the APÉ.

In short, faced with the challenges related to the relocation of their school to a new “nest,” this association has managed to channel parents’ energy and skills for the good of their children and the community itself.
