Mobilizing and Involving Parents: A Case Study

Saturday began with a talk focusing on the power of collaboration and what can be achieved by encouraging the involvement of parents to meet a challenge that affects the school community.

Our guest speaker, Christine McLeod, is a consultant and trainer in leadership with extensive experience, including as an advisor to many companies. She is also the President of l’Association de parents d’élèves de l’école Les Aiglons  in Squamish.

In collaboration with Catherine Drapeau, the school’s principal, Christine presented the school community’s experience after they learned that l’école Les Aiglons had to leave the premises that it had been renting in a school in the Anglophone system, and find a new location.

The situation caused a lot of uncertainty and divided the school community, but the APÉ played a leadership role that allowed them to get through the ordeal and emerge more united and more committed than before.

Presented in the form of a case study, the talk captivated and touched the parents present in the room. The lessons learned from the experience of the école Les Aiglons school community were emphasized, lessons that would likely inspire and motivate other parents’ associations that are facing challenges, big or small.

You can find the PowerPoint presentation of the talk by Ms. McLeod and Ms. Drapeau on our website, by clicking here.

The talk was also filmed, and will soon be available for viewing in the Vidéos  section of our website (the last tab under the Ressources  heading).
