PORTRAIT OF A PARENT

Marc, New Board Member – North Vancouver Island

To show Parenthèse readers how parents from across the province contribute to their school community, we’re publishing “portraits” of parents who commit themselves in various ways to the community.

My name is Marc Paris. I have two children aged seven and four. The older one attends l’école Au-cœur-de-l’île, and the younger one goes to Les petits cœurs de l’île, the Francophone preschool centre in Comox.

I am originally from Paris, where I studied engineering. I then started working as an information systems consultant for various telecommunications companies.

I have been living in British Columbia since 2011. I first lived in Vancouver; my family settled in Comox almost four years ago.

How I get involved at the community level as a parent:
I am actively involved as a volunteer for various school events, from school outings to fundraising activities. In addition, I am a volunteer rescuer for the Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue (RCMSAR).

I look forward to serving on the board of directors of the Fédération des parents francophones de Colombie-Britannique as a member representing our region, North Vancouver Island.

How I started to get involved:
Not having grown up in Canada, I wasn’t familiar with the Canadian system and how it was organized. I began to get involved little by little, curious to learn about my children’s preschool and school environments.
