CLIN D’ŒIL - KAMLOOPS
A New Girls Basketball Team for École Collines-d'or
The girls basketball team at École Collines-d’or in Kamloops made history this season by creating their first school sports team ever!
The Collines-d’or Castors are also the first team from the school to compete in the Kamloops basketball league.
It has been a very exciting season so far. Nine girls, from grades 4-7, joined the team. The athletes are having fun, are playing well and are eager to learn more about the game. Every player comes to lunch hour practice with enthusiasm and dedication.
Game days are especially exciting! The season runs for six weeks and the Castors will suit up for five away games.
The school's gym, which is only an activity room, has been a deterrent in past years because of its small size and lack of a permanent basketball hoop.
While these issues haven't been resolved, this year two parent coaches and nine female students went ahead with forming a team in spite of these challenges. They are being creative with their limited space and resources, and not letting it stop them from pushing the limits and making history…
Go Castors Go!
