CAPITAL FUNDING
Funding Available to Create Child-Care Spaces
In January 2015, the British Columbia Ministry of Children and Family Development announced the second phase of its grant program to help with the costs of building new child-care spaces (preschool, preschool daycare, before and after school care services).

One of the goals of this initiative is to open 1,000 new spaces in licensed child-care centres during the 2015/16 school year.
AMOUNTS ALLOCATED
The grants awarded could be up to $500,000 for non-profit child-care organizations, and up to $250,000 for private-sector organizations.
ELIGIBLE EXPENSES
The grants can be used to cover the following costs:
- Construction of new child-care facilities, including the cost of purchasing land or a building;
- Assembling a modular building and developing a site;
- Renovating an existing building;
- Purchasing eligible equipment (including playground equipment) and furnishings that encourage the creation of new spaces in an existing facility.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Preference will be given to applications that will create spaces in daycare/preschool or in before and after school care services, in regions of BC that are underserved by these types of services. The cost per number of spaces created will also be closely examined.
DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS
In order to take advantage of the grants in this second phase, applications must be received by 4:30 p.m. on March 20, 2015, at the latest.
